As Royale Takitumu is a self catering 4 star boutique property, it was important for many guests to find out what food options are available in and around the area of Titikaveka where the property is located. There is a roadside stall directly across the street from Royale Takitumu which abounds
with local fruit and vegetables that are picked fresh that morning. From delicious papaya,
coconuts , bananas & fresh eggs and more. And such great value! A recent purchase was a bag full of papaya, bananas, pineapple, tomatoes, lettuce and eggs, which cost a whooping NZ$7.00 !!
If guests don't want to cater for themselves, then there are a number of restaurants a short distance away such as Sands Restaurant (previously called the PawPaw Patch) - a must on the menu is the Sticky Date pudding... yum!!. Salt Water Cafe, Sails and Vaima, which provide FREE pickup service for guests at Royale Takitumu.
The local bus also stops at the door so if our guests don't have a car then this is an easy option to get around the island and experience some of the other wonderful eateries.

Don't worry - you most certainly won't go hungry staying at Royale Takitumu!!

Just what is this place?

If you are driving down the road on Rarotonga (near the Titikaveka college), there is a hidden little driveway. No signs, and no indication that, just beyond this foliage wall is the true hidden paradise of Royale Takitumu.

We do not have a sign for Royale Takitumu - we want to create a nice, hidden, quiet and exclusive getaway for our guests. So, why the secret? No secret. Just a calm, peaceful getaway on what may be the best beach in the entire Cook Islands. Don't look for our sign. If you want directions, just ask.

Sunday Church Service in Titikaveka

Sundays on Rarotonga are special. Everything shuts down (except for the local churches!), families get together, and the normally relaxed pace of Rarotonga becomes even more relaxed (as hard as that is to believe!).

Guests at Royale Takitumu often visit our village church (a very short walk across the street from us) to enjoy Sunday church service. To experience the singing in the church is a once in a lifetime event. And, many of our guests meet new friends (locals) who often invite them to their homes to meet their families.

New Highly Energy Efficient Air-Conditioners Installed

We are happy to report that we have installed brand new, highly energy efficient air-conditioners in all of the Villas at Royale Takitumu.

What was wrong with the old air-conditioners? Nothing. But these new units will deliver the same cooling that the old ones did, but will use 30%+ less energy to do so. Energy and power are valuable commodities on a small island like Rarotonga, and anything we can do to limit our energy use, while still providing exceptional guest comfort, helps us all.

Everyone agrees that the oversized spa jacuzzi tubs in all of our villas are a highlight. Nothing says relaxation and recharge like a spa jacuzzi tub!

Souvenir Shopping in Rarotonga

Many of our guests at Royale Takitumu ask us for suggestions on what they can purchase for souvenirs of their stay in the Cook Islands.

Our #1 souvenir recommendation is very easy: photos & memories. And heck, they're free!

For those guests who want to purchase something, we do have some great suggestions. Head on over to Pananga Nui Market and pick up some local handicrafts. Perhaps a pareu. Or, splurge on a hand-made quilt. T-shirts and wood carvings can be found at many stalls and shops in town.

But for the ultimate souvenir, you can indulge in a purchase of world-famous Cook Islands black pearls. Whether you want to buy some loose pearls that you can have set when you return home, or a full necklace with matching earrings, you will be amazed at the extremely high quality black pearls available in Rarotonga. There are several pearl stores around the island, which provide exceptional pearl products. When you purchase a Cook Islands black pearl, you are buying an amazing memory from an amazing place.

Your private Kitchen in your private Villa

When some people hear that we have fully stocked kitchens in our private, thatched roof, individual Villas, they get nervous. They don't want to have to cook all their own meals!! No worries. These kitchens are there for your convenience and your use.

To be honest, we have many couples that visit us and never once use anything in the kitchen. Most of our guests like to make fresh coffee or tea in the morning, and perhaps enjoy some of the 'goodies' that we provide in our Welcome Tropical Breakfast Basket. Enjoy some toast with butter and tropical spreads; some of the island's freshest and tastiest local fruits; and maybe even an omelette.

Some of our wonderful guests do some shopping around the island and stock their full-size refrigerator with local produce and fresh fish and meat. We have a large and modern gas grill by the pool that all guests are welcome to use. They make themselves dinner, and enjoy a great meal on the deck of their verandah, just as the sun sets into the sea.

Not into cooking on holiday? Don't worry. We have loads of restaurants and cafes on Rarotonga, some are even a short walking distance away. Looking for a splurge? Ask about us bringing in a private chef to make a romantic dinner on the beach.

Just remember, the kitchen isn't there to make you work. Just to make your life simple and easy in case you want to prepare your own meals and snacks.

Some people have a somewhat irrational fear of getting bored while on holiday. Don't worry - Royale Takitumu has got you covered.

Do you want to explore the lagoon on a sea kayak? Just grab a paddle and kayak and get out there! No need to reserve, pay, or sign liability waivers. We want you to see for yourself why we think we have the finest location on this amazing lagoon.

Do you want to experience a bit of the underwater world? Grab a snorkel, mask and fins and meet some new underwater friends. The snorkeling directly in front of Royale Takitumu is some of the best on the entire island.

Go for a walk! For those early risers, ditch your shoes and go for a nice, long walk on our beautiful beach. You will not find a nicer location for a quiet, peaceful stroll.

Check in with Mi'i in our office. She can tell you all of the fun and amazing activities, tours, excursions and more that are available for you throughout Rarotonga.

Many people, when searching for their beachfront accommodation, are concerned with exactly how close their Villa is to the beach. We at Royale Takitumu can just say one thing: hold your breath! Our individual, thatched roof Honeymoon Beachfront Villas and VIP Beachfront Villas are simply a few steps away from the soft, warm, white sand of our amazing beach. But what about our LagoonView Villas? Well, we like to brag that you can walk from your verandah to the beach while holding your breath.

Are you going to be in Rarotonga over a Saturday? Plan on waking early, and driving over to the Punanga Nui Cultural Market. This is THE place to see and be seen on Saturday mornings. Mingle with locals, purchase some handicrafts, and stroll amongst many different stalls selling their wares. Make sure that you come hungry - there is plenty of food to be had at the market. Ask Mi'i at Royale Takitumu for the best stalls to visit at the markets, and enjoy an amazing morning with the friendly Raro locals.
